In 1939 my mother, Marjorie Prior, a 17 year old student travelled to France to enjoy her "gap year" before going on to Avery Hill teacher training College. Just weeks after her arrival Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declared Britain was at war with Germany.
Unable to return to England my mother was stuck in France for the remainder of the war and recounted some fascinating experiences of her enforced stay to us later on. These included surviving in a big family (she was to be employed as a nanny for the two youngest children) in the poverty that inevitably followed the occupation plus being interned by the Germans.
After many years of pestering her, she finally got round to writing these experiences down and eventually producing a small book titled "Two Lemons and Five Lumps of Sugar" .
Contact myself at JulesandLynda@hotmail.com if you require more information or if you would like to contact my mother. She is interested in anyone who has similar experiences of a different aspect of life in WW2.
