I am the eldest Son of Reginald and Mary Haigh Brearey my name is Douglas and I have two Sisters Sandra and Patricia, two Brothers Richard and Peter.
Dad spent some time in Canada during the War and in 1953 we left our home in Yorkshire and came to Canada to live.
Our interest in the memories of World War Two comes about due to our Father's participation as a "Wireman" on Mine sweepers.
Dad served on converted Trawlers and "Mickey Mouses" (M.M.S.)and some of his experiences are recorded on this website.
Dad seldom spoke of what we now know to be difficult times but when he was in his seventies I asked him to write or record what he remembered, while he did write a few pages there is a sentence at the end of his notes saying there were some things he couldn't write about.
Through the internet and some extremely helpful people we have learned more about the places and happenings Dad wrote of and created a History of these memories for the members of our Family and anyone else that has an interest.
We would appreciate anyone who has information related to Dads experiences contacting us through this website.
When you read the stories told by these ordinary and yet extraordinary people and because I am writing this on November 11th. I'm sure you will understand why I titled it "Lest We Forget"
Doug Brearey.
