I was ten when the war broke, as a child with absolutely no idea of the horror that was about to unfold. Evacuation was on every ones lips . I lived in very poor circumstance .with Gran, granddad. brother ,sister and thee cousins and my mum.So when evacuation was on the menu I was off . I signed my own permission paper; and was off to Chepstow. I loved every minute. My first carer was a vet in Chepstow .The vet himself was great , But his wife was really hateful, she made me and the other little boy ,who was about five, his name was Tommy Rose , eat in the kitchen where all the cooking was done , and would not let us speak to her small daughter. The vet used to take me with him on all his calls where I used to help him.Tommy was always crying. So I wrote a letter to his mom to come and fetch him which she did .I was in terrible trouble because I had taken the material to write; from off the desk of the vet and was accused of stealing. For this I was taken from the vets.
And placed in the local.Workhouse. It was Horrendous ,I was there until rescued by a lovely ,lovely lady ,Mrs Hardwick
