I was a soldier from 1939 to 1946, having registered under the Military Training Act of April 1939. I was an infantryman (Devonshire Regt), RASC clerk, infantryman again in 1944 on being commissioned (into the Devons and seconded to the Queen's) and in 1946 was an Army College Librarian (my peacetime profession). I am particularly interested to hear about changes in Army training, discipline, morale, education, relationship between officers and ORs as the war went on. And also why did German soldiers go on fighting when it was hopeless. And do people agree with something that Richard Holmes said to me to the effect that German army training was 20% better than ours? And did they have better weapons?
