Shropshire's war may have been different from that of other parts of the country - Salopians did not have to endure the horrors of the Blitz, for example. They did, however, have to suffer social and economic hardships and, all too often, the trauma of personal loss.
Shropshire had to cope with a flood of military personnel, evacuees and refugees into the county. Its people had to adapt to rationing, the blackout, and the threat of air raids. Shropshire also had to send its sons and daughters into the firing line.
