He was at Pornichet and Dunkirk in France. Spent some time at Dungeness Lighthouse, Kent before being billeted at Villa Park (Aston Villa Football Stadium). From there he was sent to North Africa, was wounded at Bir Hakeim, served in the Special Investigations Bureau in Cairo, went to Aleppo in Syria, and Damascus then on to Ancona in Italy, to Rimini then to the Dolomites. He was near Trieste when the War ended. After this he spent some time in Austria at Himelberg near Villach.
