I am John Ellis, a retired Army officer, having served almost 35 years in the Ordnance Corps (RAOC). With my father, a WW1 veteran, in business in India since the early 20鈥檚 I spent most of my childhood out there. From 6 months to 7 years old it was Bombay, then back to England for school in Brighton from 1937 to 1940. I was put on a P&O liner to India in late 1940 and that is what my story is about. In India I went to a school in Kashmir for a year and then to Bishop Cotton School in Simla. When the war ended I returned to finish my interrupted schooling and almost immediately after that, was called up for National Service in 1948. I liked the life and stayed until 1984. I live near Salisbury, Wiltshire.
