I was an evacuee living in Somerset from London
from the age of five years old.I never saw my Mother during that time consequently not knowing her when I eventually went home.My Father died during those years and he visited us once.
Nevertheless I loved every minute of it and had a very happy home.
The crunch came when we were to go home.I couldn`t understand why I had to leave as this is what I new and loved. It was a very sad occasion for the folks and myself.
This made a big effect on me later mentally. As far as I know there was no arrangements for counselling at that time. When I think now I cannot understand why.It was a very traumatic time for all!
I have now four sons and grandchildren and used to live in fear that should they have to be evacuated I would be devastated!
So I have to thank all those who fought and helped in the war for giving our children a better existence and a more stable life.
