I was born after the war, but remember some stories told to me by my late father and have some letters which he sent to his mother.
He was an original Desert Rat and spent the whole of the war in North Africa and Italy, including Cassino.
His name was John (Jack) Hawken and he served in B Battery of 1st Reg Royal Horse Artillery.
