I was born in 1937, in Barry, South Wales.

Brought up by my mother and grandmother, my early childhood in the late 30's and 40's was governed by the progression of the war. My family circumstances were slightly unusual because my father had left us when I was barely 9 months old; so I was being brought up in a small terraced house without the benefit of a male parent.
As a child, even my daily trip to school was governed by the possibility of air-raids.

The following are stories of my day to day life as a child in Barry during the war; the people around me, the soldiers that I met, the things we had to endure, such as air raids, rationing, walking home in a blackout/smokescreen, and my mothers' gifts and comfort for casualties of war in the local hospital.

I was educated in Barry until I was 16 years old, when I went to Cardiff College of Art to do a 5 year Fine Art Course.

A retired Teacher, I was sadly widowed at a young age in 1974, and now live in Taunton, Somerset.
