My father Jack Craddock took part in the D Day landings. He'd like to hear from people who knew him.
He was a private, aged 20 years, with the 5th Battalion East Yorks (50th division.)
On 6th June 1944 they landed at La Riviere not far from Arromanches.
They reached Tilly sur Seulles on June 11. My father was wounded when his platoon was surrounded by Jerry in a large cornfield. His officer, Lieutenant Sykes, probably saved his life by ordering him to twist round to get a Piat. As a result, my father was shot in the back not in the chest. The officer was killed.
My father was taken back to Dover in a hospital ship.
His story is recorded under Jack Craddock is wounded in Tilly sur Seulles.
