I was born in 1944 after my father was torpedoed on his first trip. When I was a young lad my father used to tell me stories of some of trips. He then read a book by Henry Revely O.N.S. 154 The Convoy That Nearly Died. That was the convoy of that first trip. Afterwards he wrote down his own memories of the trip. Then he went to the National Maritime Museum at Liverpool and found information on the "U" boats that attacked the convoy. Sadly My father passed away in March 2004. So after reading some of the stories on WW2 Peoples War, I felt I had to add my fathers story so it would not be lost.
I served in H.M. forces during the sixties, later I became a member of the Royal British Legion and met a lot of ex WW2 service men and women. They had a lot of stories to tell and a lot of them were very humorous. Sadly most of them have now passed away and with them their stories.
My mother still has fathers National Union of Seamen book And his Continuous Certificate Of Discharge. With all the ships names on which he sailed. His first ship was the Empire Union(topedoed). Then May 1943 the Ocean Vangeance. I think it was the Ocean Vengeance.
April 1944 Empire Lancaster.
Sept 1944 Fort Abitibi.
January 1945 Chertsey.
July 1945 Lesto utill discharged October 1945.
On these ships he went to South and North America. Malta. North Africa. Salerno. Anzio.
