My name is Patricia McCormack and my husband is Mike. We live in Cannock, Staffordshire. We are retired and we have one daughter, Anna.
In response to a request from Anna, I have been writing up my memoirs. As I write, I realise that, when my own parents were alive, I didn't encourage them to talk about their early life.
I began to do some family research. My first task was to find out about my father's service in World War 1. My sister and I were lucky to be able to trace his records and those of his older brother in the Public Records Office. The more I find out, the more questions I want answered. I wish now that I had listened more when My parents were alive.
My husband is a keen student of history and he reads widely on the subject.
A friend has encouraged me to contribute to this site. I am already making new discoveries, for instance, that my brother-in-law served with the New Zealand forces in the Japanese arm of World War2. I have asked him to write down his memories of that time.
