I grew up listening to my parent's childhood experiences of the War. My Mum's Father died in the war and my Grandmother never spoke about it. My Dad's war experiences were very different, it was all a bit of an adventure. I thought it was important for their experiences to be told, so I interviewed them and the stories I've posted on this website are the result. They are both very pleased to know that they will be read in years to come.
My partner, Simon Tilbury's family have a close friend who fought in the war. He wanted to tell his story, so I interviewed him and the result is the third story that I have added to this website. He is 81 and he was very moved to see his experiences of the D-Day landing on Gold Beach written down. He said, he is glad it is off his chest. I have tried to keep all the stories in their own words and they have all said how happy they are with the results. I have so enjoyed hearing their stories that I am now studying oral history at the University of Sussex.
