I am the son of 2934077 Sergeant George Sands MM. My Father seldom spoke of his experiences during the second world war, until he joined the Camerons regimental association and met some old comrades. I have interrogated him at every opportunity and am in the process of writing and recording his memories. I have now acquired a passion for History of the war and the Camerons and 51st Highland Division in particular, although I have interest in Military History in general.
My Father celebrates his 87th birthday December 18th 2003.He hopes to return to St Honorine on 12th June, 2004 to be presented with a commemorative medal from the people of Normandy, in the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Normandy campaign.
It will be one day short of 60 years that he won the Military Medal.
