In 1944 I came to Northenden and lived with my Aunt and Uncle at 2 Lingard Road. My childhood was centered around Northenden Methodist Church. After the war the bomb damaged properties were quickly rebuilt, and my father Fred Crawford re-opened the grocery store at 180 Trafford Road Eccles.
I attended Manchester Central High School in Whitworth Street Manchester.
My brother Freddy Crawford served with the 6th.Airborne and was killed crossing the Rhine on the 24 March 1945. He had been married for just six weeks.
In 1953 I joined the Royal Navy and served for 12 years.
When I left the navy I went to Canada and the USA
were I learnt what business was all about. On my return to England I very quickly progressed to become Manageing Director of important international companies.
I am interested in the war and the affects it has had on my generation. It seems to me that as you get older you realise that the war years had a profound affect on ones life.
