Since retiring in 2004, I have had the opportunity to research into how various members of my family served during WW2. In particular, I have spent a lot of time obtaining information from my father-in-law, who at 86, finally started talking about his experiences. Unfortunately, he does not remember many names so I would be interested to hear from anyone who served with him in the Kent Yeomanry or who was mprisoned as a POW with him. I have been able to confirm some key dates from the Regimental Archives and also from the National Archives in Kew.
My next project is to research more about my father (Geof Heathcote) who, as a colliery manager, was in a reserved occupation during the war. I know there were a number of Bevin boys who were assigned to Silverhill Colliery in Nottinghamshire and I would love to hear any memories they have of that time.
