I was born in Brussels in 1939. My father died at the hands of the Germans in 1942.
When Brussels was liberated by the British Army on Sep. 3, 1944, we took some British soldiers in our home. They would come back regularly from Germany and spend a few days with us. They were family.
To me they became "Uncle Lou","Uncle Bill","Uncle Edgar", "Uncle Jack".
Louis was British, Bill and Edgar were Scottish and Jack was Canadian.
The last one we saw was Louis who went back to England in 1947. Contact was lost and, of course, over the years, I felt the need to know what happened to my heroes.
