Born in 1932, I was at prep. school (Chinthurst)when WW2 broke out. At the time of the 1938 Munich crisis the school was nearly evacuated to Wales. When the real thing happened we stayed put - in Tadworth, Surrey. The school's new swimming pool was converted into an air-raid shelter - where I learnt to wear a gas-mask and to sing 'Quartermasters Stores'.
In 1944 I started at Epsom College, as a day-boy. Post-school I worked on a Devon farm for a year and then did three years at Wye College in Kent, taking a B.Sc. in Agriculture. There followed 8 years in Malaya in Rubber Research, a short spell of teaching, 20-odd years as PRO for the Milk Marketing Board and retirement. Then I picked up a career I had always hankered for and became an actor. Currently (September 2005) touring in a theatre production of 'Rebecca'.
