My father, Patrick McElholm, was in the Territorial Army (RAOC & REME) in WW2, he joined up at the Glasgow office just 2 weeks after war was declared - he was 20 years old. He died in 1997 but I am lucky that he gave an interview to my sister's friend before he died (she was doing an assigment for college).
I also remember him telling us a few stories about his experiences when we were growing up, but you know how it is . . . young people never listen - "Oh no, there he goes again with his old war stories" ;) I do remember that his best friend in the army was a guy called Blackie.
Now that I'm older I wish I had paid more attention, as I realise how much I don't know. This site is such a great resource though and is allowing me to fill in some blanks in my knowledge. Thanks to everyone for sharing their great stories and I hope to put my father's experiences up shortly.
Events he was involved in: Dunkirk, back in England during the Battle of Britain, El Alamein, captured on Kos and POW in Liepzig, helped to clear bombed sites there.
