My life changed after the blitz of 1941 described in my true story. Had it not been for the bombing of Jubilee Street and the resulting evacuation, I may still be living in that street.
From the requisitioned property referred to in my story we moved to the house where I now live.
My childhood during the war was very sparse, with no sweets in the shops, no fruit, and no biscuits I could go on and on. I remember a butcher鈥檚 shop and the only thing in it, was a tin of corned beef. On another occasion a shop displayed in their window a single lemon on a black velvet cushion. As children we used to gaze into that window wondering what the lemon tasted like. We had no games and no television so we had to make our own entertainment.
The ugliness of these years has made me look for the more beautiful things in life and I have tried to create things of beauty and help others in the process. I longed to be an artist but due to the heavy demand for art-college places at the end of the war I could not get a seat even though I had the full support of my father and Headmaster of the school I attended. I decided to teach myself and succeeded.
I have done work for the Royal Family, the Ideal Home Exhibition, London etc., etc., and have a long string of broadcasts to my credit in both radio and television demonstrating my skills.
A picture of me and many examples of my work can be found on my website. You can even contact me through the site.
