During the war I lived in Hove, on Ingram Crescent along Portland Road. I was 17 when war was declared and I was a trainee children's nurse.
I carried on with my nursing training, and when I finished I started wokring for a private family, which was a bit tedious.
I decide to volunteer my services to the ATS, partly because my nursing job was a bit dull, and also because I was very upset by the Pearl Habour bombings in Japan and I wanted to do something to help.
Most of my family had served in one branch or other of the services. My father was in the 1st Battalion Royal Sussex and my Uncle was in the Grenadier Guards. So I wanted to become part of the services too . . . these are some of my memories of being in the ATS
