Interested in military history. Parents were married in 1918, father member of Royal Flying Corps, later Royal Air Force.
Elder brother born 1919, called up 1939, served in France with BEF and evacuated from Dunkirk. In Anti-aircraft battery in London during "blitz". Sent to Far East with 18th Div
arrived Singapore just as it fell to Japanese. Taken prisoner in Java, shipped to Japan, died in December 1942.
I joined RAF in 1951, trained as a pilot in Canada, did "short service" engagement as a regular. Rejoined RAF Volunteer Reserve in 1981, did 15 years as staff pilot with Air Experience Flight, flying ATC and CCF cadets.
Had dubious distinction of being oldest pilot flying RAF aircraft in 1995. Persuaded rather reluctantly to do "wing walking" with Crunchie Flying Circus at International Air Tattoo Press Day at RAF Fairford.
