I was born in 1933, in St Georges Square, Portsmouth. By the time WWII was declared I was attending infants school at Northern Parade School, we were promptly evacuated to the New Forest, but not for long ( the phoney war period). After we returned, it eventually got a 'bit hot' so we left again.
The upcome of this was that I eventually attended about a dozen schools, before becoming an apprentice 'Ship Fitter' in HIS Majesty's Dockyard, Pompey.
Having spent five years learning a trade involving Ships, I was conscripted in the R.A.F. !
Back in the 'yard I continued in various posts until I moved to Sheffield to become an Overseer, in 1966. From there I moved to Grantham in 1986, to retire in 1992.
