My father was Gunner 1525552 John Macmillan from Leith,Edinburgh,Scotland who I know was in 90th Battery, he sailed from the U.K. in an ex Spanish liner on the 27/11/42 and landed at Algiers on the 6/12/42.

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me the name of the ship and if they remember him, I am particularly keen to find out which troop he was in so I can relate to the Reg'tl diaries. he kept a diary of the voyage and of his time overseas,
I am also in contact with Ron Goldstein.

extract from diary 24th & 25/12/1942
"Plenty of air raids, moved out to join det, site next to yankee field artillery who are sending plenty over, got first taste of jerry shelling."
" What a Xmas, tinned stew and hard biscuits for dinner"
