Since 1982 I have been researching all traces of people with the family name MARGRETT or MARGRETTS.
There are various opinions as to the source of the name. The earliest traces major from the little village of Deerhurst in Gloucestershire, situated on the banks of the River Severn, north of the city of Gloucester and south of Tewksbury.
It may be that the name relates to "Queen Margaret's men" from the battle of Tewksbury 1471 where Queen Margaret suffered a severe defeat.
However other ocurrences of the surname appear from abroad, and the is no definitive conclusion. December 2005
