Veterans walking on a Normandy beach, 2004 (Photo: Mark Collins) The invasion of Normandy, also known as D-Day, started in the early hours of 6 June 1944. It was a massive joint services operation which took over a year to plan and involved more than three million men. It was the first part of Operation Overlord, the plan to liberate Europe from the Nazis.

The recollections on this page have been compiled from interviews with some of the people who took part in the planning and execution of D-Day. These veterans featured in 大象传媒 ONE's D-Day drama on 6 June 2004, and in the trail for the drama. The stories have been added with the consent of the participants, who are fully aware of the site鈥檚 terms and conditions. (Photo: Mark Collins)
