Sutton Coldfield Library have hosted a series of events relating to WW2:
A Victory Coffee Morning with a sing-a-long by local group Claret and poems by Sutton Coldfield Poetry Society.
Annie Murray, the best selling author came to talk about research for her books. Many of them, such as "The Chocolate Girls" are set in Birmingham during WW2. She spoke about the value of talking to people or reading about their reminiscences to find out what life was like.
We hald a Reminiscence session with food made from Marguerite Patten's war recipes, a display produced by members of staff and artefacts borrowed from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
We had a session of staff reading extracts of poetry and fiction with a WW2 theme.
The aim of these events was to stimulate reminiscences and to encourage people to write down their stories.
Not all contributors were able to register for the website but many had written their memories down.
With the consent of these contributors, staff from Sutton Coldfield Library assisted in transferring these stories onto the Sutton Coldfield Library special group page.
If people want to put their memories onto the People's War Website they can use free internet access avaialble at Sutton Coldfield Library. For further information please telephone 0121 464 0164.
