I was 4 years old when war was declaired living in St. Leonards Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester. For part of the war I was evacuated to Market Drayton, Shropshire but returned to Manchester before the war ended. There were 5 children in the family during the war but more were born afterwards. My Father worked as an fitter building aircraft at various places and also away on submarines. Money was short and my Mother struggled to make ends meet.
