I was born at Filton Nr Bristol, went to school at Filton, was evacuated during the early part of the war (blitz).Later I went as an apprentice at the Engine Division of the Bristol Aeroplane Company. I joined the R Aux. Air Force at RAF Filton. Attended at weekends and evenings also at Summer Camps at Malta & Tangmere. The "pull" of aeroplanes was too great and I joined the Royal Air Force "full time" and stayed for a lifetime loving every minuet.I was mostly on Rolls Royce Engines the Avon & Conway. I was selected to become an Aircraft Servicing Chief (or Crew Chief),I took possesion of a Vulcan B Mk2 Bomber, the one that blew down the Runway Garage on the A38 at the end of Filton's runway. We maintained the deterrent at Waddington from time to time we slept & lived near our bombers, who were loaded with a Thermo-nuclear weapon.
I stayed with this aeroplane till I was posted to Cyprus where I took on a new bomber XJ781, this crashed at Shiraz in Iran. I left the RAF after that time and went offshore back to my basic trade Gas Turbines. Working overseas and in the North Sea I was finally a Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) like a Captain of a ship entirely responsible for all people and activities on a North Sea Platform.Three hundred miles out in the North Sea, we produced one hundred thousand barrels per day and millions of cubic feet of gas.
I retired from this, my Wife passed away,I later re-married and went to live in Devon.
My Children two boys and two girls all live abroad, one in Texas another in Oz, the boys live and work in Brazil.
We have three dogs and we are very happy.
I have had a very full life, been in many countries, worked & lived at the "sharp end"....
