Dad died on 13 May 2005. In the last few years before he died he began to put on paper some of his experiences of the War, and also of teaching in London from 1946-1981.

Ted was a remarkable man. He did not often speak of the war years, but obviously had experiences that stayed with him and shaped his future. I know that he met many people who influenced him, and that he must have helped and guided others.

Ted knew his wife, Joan, from childhood; their families lived just around the corner from each other in Upper Norwood, South East London. The war years caused them to part for almost 6 years continously, without any leave! When Dad came back, briefly before being posted to North Germany, they married within a few days. Mum recalls how she met him at the bus stop: "He was smaller than I remembered, and very brown!"

Ted and Joan were together for 60 years, celebrating that wedding anniversary just before he died. Pat and Linda, their daughters, son-in-laws, Peter Clake and Peter Dunk, grandchildren, Rebecca, Anthony and Jonathan, loved him and miss him enormously.
