I am 58 years of age.
I was born in my mother's home town of Keighley West Yorkshire where my father was a Police Constable. I spent the majority of my childhood in the Pennine foot hills near to Huddersfield in my father's home village of Golcar. In my teenage years he was transferred and we moved to Dewsbury. We remained there until I left home to study engineering at The University of Huddersfield. I met my future wife, Linda at the local Folk Club and after I graduated in 1973, we married in Mirfield and moved to live in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester. I worked for a period at UKAEA, Risley and eventually became a Chartered Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer. I am now self employed as a contracting consultant in the Oil Industry. We have two sons, Richard and Robert. Both are now also professionally qualified and live happily with their respective Wife and Partner. We wait with baited breath for the patter of tiny feet.
We love Folk and Country Music, family history, local history, the accessability of the internet, our pet fish and our beautiful Golden Retriever - Jess.
On one of my work assignments, we spent some time working and living in Africa. This has left us with a compulsion to return to this fascinating and beautiful continent. We love the English Canals and have cruised most of them on holidays over the past 20 years. The British canals are amongst the most beautiful and (thankfully) least publicised tourist attractions this country has to offer.
