The East Riding Archives held an Open Day in October 2004 relating to World War Two to encourage contributions to the 大象传媒's 'WW2 People's War' website. The Open Day was very successful and attracted over 90 visitors to the Archives. Some of these made contributions to the 大象传媒's 'WW2 People's War' website. An exhibition of original documents relating to 'The Home Front' brought back memories of those years for many of the visitors.
The Archives is also an Associate Centre for the 大象传媒's 'WW2 People's War' website project. We are willing to assist people who wish to add their stories to the 大象传媒's site before the project finishes in November 2005. We are looking for stories from a wide cross section of people, both from the military and the Home Front. This could include the armed forces, agricultural or factory workers, evacuees and women from the voluntary services - indeed anyone who wishes to relate their experience of the War. It is an ideal opportunity to record how World War Two affected the lives of people in the East Riding. This will also create a great resource for local history research in the future.
We also hold a wide variety of documents relating to World War Two which may be useful if you want to research this subject further. Information about these can be accessed via our Online Catalogue at www.eastriding.gov.uk - follow the links at the right of the screen to 'Archives' and then 'Online Archive Catalogue'.
