I am 85 years old worked as an electrical engineer until I was 63 when having been working on an atomic power station in the south was advised by my son "to get out of it before it kills you". So I took Maggie Thatcher's 拢40 a week and gave an engineer who had just been made reduntant from Britsh Steel at Scunthorpe a chance for a job instead of him being on the dole.
Soon after my wife and myself moved to Lincoln but because of my wife's failing health and me being older we decided to move back to Leeds where we were offered sheltered accomodation.
Whilst I was in the Far East my wife lost her hearing whilst on war work because unknown to her and others working with her in another part of the building they were working on explosive and when there was an explosion it blew open the connecting door and from that day she was profoundly deaf.
