I served in the army from Nov 1939 to Jun 1946 initially in the South Wales Borderers at the ITC Brecon first as a recruit and later as an NCO instructor. I joined the King's African Rifles on 17 Dec 1940 and served with them until May 1945 first as a BNCO and then as a BWO in the 4/4th Bn.KAR until Dec 1942, then OCTU until the end of Apr 1943. I then became a commissioned officer in the 29(TT)Bn.KAR until May 1945, apart that is for a one month spell as Staff Captain A in a sub-district HQ in the Seychelles. On returning to UK I served as a staff learner at HQ Mid-West District at Shrewsbury and later as Staff Capt Q at the HQ Cambria Sub District at Rossett.

I have plenty of contacts in the KAR and East Africa Forces Association. I would be pleased to chat to anyone who served in East Africa during the war and who is unaware of this Association and I would gladly put anyone eligible in touch.
