Last year I asked my father, George Maurice Roe (known as 'Maurice') to write down his wartime memories. I thought his recollections would be of particular interest as he spent the war in Manchester because his mother would not let him be evacuated. My father had a very good memory and could recount many interesting wartime incidents. He also had a lifelong interest in history and a wonderful sense of family and place.
Sadly he died in February this year, aged 74. But I was determined to send his contribution to the web site as a lasting memory of, and tribute to, a much loved and missed Dad.
