I am trying to research my mother's history. Her name was Maureen Kilbey. She is now dead but as a child of about 11 in 1940/41 she was orphaned when her parents were killed by a doodlebug landing on their house in the East End of London. Their names were William and Hilda Kilbey.

She went to live with her uncle and his family and later went away to Boarding School, apparently paid for by the British Government. I'm trying to track other children orphaned during the war to find out how they survived the following years. I'd like to hear your experiences of this time.
