I was born in Manchester 1923. I joined the army in January 1942 - The King's (Liverpool) Regiment, I was transferred to the 7th Bn. The Duke of Wellington's Regiment in l943. I was in an advance party for 'D' Day There were 10 in the party among whom were Major Tomlinson, CSM,W.Wootton, Jim Macdonald, Jim fisher, George Clements, Bernard Wilkinson, I cannot recall the others names. However, three of our party were killed in the next couple of weeks.
I went through France, Belgium and Holland during the war and finished on occupation in Germany until my release in November 1946.
On return to civilian life I couldn't settle down in Manchester so moved to Chesterfield where my wife had lived. I worked as a steward, machine operator,mining, finally I was withthe Construction Industry Training Board. I retired in September 1987 and still going(almost)
