I was born in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, and emigrated to Canada almost thirty years ago. Currently I live in a lakeside house about 220 kilometers north of Toronto - a far cry from the horrors of war that my parents' generation endured.
As a child I would listen fascinated to adults' stories of their wartime experiences. My mother particularly told great tales of surviving bombing, spending terrified nights sheltering in Anderson shelters, working in a munitions factory, "making do" with rationing and shortages, losing friends, and sharing all the hardships with so many others.
I've written down one of her most moving stories -it's of the Sheffield Blitz in December 1940. If anyone wants to read it and let me know if they were there too, or whether they have more information or questions, please do so.
