My mother, Vera Houlston (Gladys vera houlston but she NEVER uses Gladys), was born on a small farm near Ludlow in the 1920s. Brought up by her father and his parents she moved around various villages in the area, finally resting in Brimfield. she left school in 1938 (?) and worked in Mr Clarke's tiny cafe by the train station, serving tea to the local 大象传媒 (Woofferton) and Petrol Refinery staff.
Later she had to work in the munition's factory in Tenbury (see archive article). After the war she married my father Peter Spencer, who worked at the 大象传媒 as a tranmissions engineer (he came from S. Wales and had been in the RAF). They were posted to aberdeen, cardiff and North hessary tor in Devon, where I was born. He died in 1980, 6 months before his planned early retirement. She has stayed on in the house and I have returned in the last 3-4 years to look after her.
We sometimes meet up with other 大象传媒 friends from the wartime days, and a few Ludlow people if we go there on a visit.
