My name is Mabel Anne Roberts, though these days I go by the name of Anne. The following represents some of my history:
I was born in Plymouth, but educated in a Church of England school in Cornwall during World War2, where my love of poetry and painting started.
I moved back to Plymouth after the war, and followed a clerical career as a Telephonist, Receptionist, Audit & Accounts Clerk and a twenty year career in the Civil Service as a Legal Conveyancing Officer in the Land Registry.
I married my husband in 1955 but he sadly died in 1972, leaving me with two young children. I have travelled around the U K. and on the
continent to Rome, Belgium, France, Austria, Holland and Switzerland. I am now a Watercolour artist, covering flowers, birds, local landscapes and boats. To date I have had six exhibitions at the Mount Batten Watersports Centre and several at Plymstock Library. My poetry has been published in four books and I have a Poetry Award from the Top 100 Poets of the South West.
The poem "City at War" hopefully expresses the thoughts and feelings of my generation who lived through the trauma of the utter devastation inflicted on Plymouth during World War Two, it is to be hoped that future generations will never forget what their ancestors went through to give them the city that exists today and that is able to move forward into the 21st Century.
The poem "City at War" is available in a Little Book of Poems written by me under the name of Anne Roberts along with three other books of events and experiences in my life.
The Little Books of Poems are priced @ 拢2.25 each, I would be more than happy to send another example of my work to any person interested in this book.
