I am now 68 years of age. I was born in Urmston Cottage Hospital in 1935. My parents and younger sister and I then moved to a house in Flixton.

When my father was 'called up' he served with the 8th Army in Africa and Italy. My mother took a job in a munitions factory in Trafford Park.

When the German bombing was intensified, my sister and I went to stay with my grandmother, who lived at the Manton Down Racing Stables near Marlborough.

We all survived.
