Last year I had the honour of accompanying my mother to a memorial dedication in honour of her first husband who was killed in October 1944, while flying his final training mission near Shropshire, England. My mother has requested that I post this article, which I wrote shortly after the ceremony. I hope that perhaps others may be inspired to seek out such memorials, to listen to those who were directly affected not only by the war but by the outcome, and to remember to never forget.
