Victoria Centre was founded in 1979 by the Wellingborough United Reform Church and Wellingborough and District Racial Equality Council to provide a meeting place for the multi-cultural and multi-faith community of Wellingborough. The URC still meet here for worship on a Sunday and the REC have their offices with us.
Over the years Victoria Centre has been the 'incubator'for many local for many local community organisations; e.g. the Wellingborough Afro-Caribbean Association (WACA), the Hindu Community Centre, Pravasi Mandal (Asian Elders Group)and even 'The Castle' Theatre started of as community action at Victoria Centre. They have moved to their own premises and new groups are starting up again here. Who knows which community centres will grow out of these new groups?
With financial support from the Borough Council of Wellingborough and Northamptonshire County Council we provide a wide range of activities for a wide range of people; e.g. pre-school and out-of-school activities, youth clubs, parent and toddler groups, clubs and fitness sessions for the elderly, Interfaith Group, Folk/Roots/Blues music evenings and a members bar. Other organisations use our premises to provide training, entertainment and information. We also have rooms for hire for a variety of functions. For a full programme of regular activities, special events and membership enquiries please contact us on 01933 277400 or come to see us at Palk Road (on the corner of Ranelagh Road).
You can always be sure of a welcome.
