Elizabeth Rose Hook was my mother. She was born in Lewisham the second daughter of Elizabeth Mary Jones (born in Pinner) and Laurance Henry Percy Hook (born in St Leonards on Sea). Elizabeth spent her early years living above her Grandfather's shoe shop in Blackheath.

Elizabeth had a facinating life and told many stories of her time in service. Originally employed by Sir Godfrey Nicolson as a kitchen maid at his Woodcot estate. When World War II was declared, Elizabeth was living and working at Kensington Palace London, as a parlour maid in the ‘service’ of Princess Alice.
