For as long as I can remember history has always been a subject I have enjoyed, though I have to confess to a certain bias towards particular periods and events. WW2 and in particular the Normandy Landings have always been at the top of this list.
I am currently involved in trying to accrue as much information as I can concerning the events and people centered around a French town, called Colleville sur Orne, during World War 2, though I am particularly interested in the period around D-Day and beyond.
Colleville Montgomery, as it is now called, lies about 2 km from the Calvados Coast, immeadiately inland from the Sword Invasion beaches. Colleville was a significant town in the events that played out on D-Day and became an important staging point for units traveling east as well as an administrative center for many of the units operating in this area of the beachead.
I am most anxious to make contact with anyone who may have spent any time in this location, during the landings or thereafter. No detail is too small or insignificant as far as I am concerned. Many such details to date have provided me with treasured clues that have taken me to the next level of my research.
In addition to this I am very keen to contact anyone who operated in this area with the Graves Registration Units as well as any surviving veterans of the Royal Army Chaplains Department, Pioneer Corps and Medical Corps that served in this area of North West Europe.
During my two years of research I have amassed a fair library of data concerning D-Day and Sword beach in particular. So please if you think I can help please ask me I will be only too delighted to share what I have in the hopes it will aid others in their own quests to unravel the mists of time.
