Just 5 on outbreak of the war. Lived in Petts Wood throughout. Father - a banker - served in Home Guard from its inception to the end. Mother - a teacher - was involved with welfare of people rendered homeless by the bombing for Orpington Council.
Evacuated with my younger brother to a village in Rutland and housed with an uncaring couple who made our lives so miserable that Mother brought us home early in 1940.
