I was 8years old when WW2 started. Like many others my education was disrupted with evacuation (in my case to relatives in Newark, Notts) and return to Coventry where I was born. Two weeks before the big raid in November 1940 I was again evacuated to relatives, this time in Repton, Derbyshire where I lived for about 18months. Our family then moved to Findern, Derbyshire where we lived for 2 years before moving into Derby. I completed my education in 1948 after which I served an apprenticeship as a draughtsman and eventually became a mechanical engineer for the National Coal Board where I worked until taking early retirement in 1986. I still live in Derby.
