I'm David Hastings and I'm recently (2003) retired from banking. My only personal military experience was a few years in the TA in the late 60s (Royal Corps of Transport).
My interest in this website was to offer the experience of my father-in-law Allan Kerr who was torpedoed aboard the armed merchant cruiser HMS Forfar in 1940. I hope it may be of interest, as it consists of an account which he wrote immediately he got home and the events were still vividly in his mind.
After the war Allan went into forestry and is now happily retired on the west coast of Scotland with his wife of 59 years, Helen (nee Coats, ex-Wren).
