Haven Online is a community ICT centre based in Boston Lincolnshire. We are planning to hold open days so we can get many local people to come to the centre and tell their stories. Our centre is based next to a local school (Haven High Technology College) and hopefully we will combine our efforts in such a way that the local school children will type out the war stories orated to us.
My name is Mick Taylor and i have been asked to co-ordinate this project, and I am looking forward to it! I have studied social anthropolgy Information Technology in the past. The idea of recording oral histories is an exciting prospect: we will be writing the history books of the future.
So often do "oral histories" pass away un-recorded or if passed on they are often changed or wrongly interpreted. I love to listen to stories told by parents and grandparents and have often thought of writing these down so they can be passed along the family generations. Working on this project may just provoke me enough to start!
